This page will grow as I bring in more research I’ve done over the years.
tl;dr
“Save all the information available on endangered species, the DNA, any pattern-of-life data, video and other media, and then allow new instances of them to live in a simulated world with no humans.”
We’ve seen the Asiatic Cheetah, the Sumatran Tiger, and the American Caribou* go extinct recently. This is not to say there are none still alive, simply that they will no longer survive as natural species. Efforts are being made to freeze viable genetic material of these animals. Equally important is saving their appearance, behavior, movement, chemistry, environment, and anything else we can find via enduring data stores of raw numbers, images, sounds, and our impressions of these magnificent creatures humanity’s children will only see when they or someone else can provide a safe world for them to live in.
